Golf Introduction

Why do you slice?

Simply, you slice because of a lack of understanding. The proper golf swing is tricky. And to execute the proper golf swing, you need to understand the physics and the proper mechanics of the golf swing. The cure for your slice rests in the proper understanding. And once you can grasp the "inside-out" golf swing concept, you're 75% cured. The rest is retraining your golfing muscles.

The physics of the golf swing aren’t that complicated. Many of you have probably heard before about the “inside-out” swing path, or “clearing” your hips or swing plane, among many other commonly used terms that are related to the golf swing. But do you know what they mean? Do you understand the concept behind why they are important? Can you feel what your swing is telling you at impact? These are all very important in order to consistently reduce that ugly slice.

I’m going to explain the golf swing and the physics of why it is that will help you understand and make all of your lessons and golf self-help products much more productive. Because golf is a game much more enjoyed when you hit the shots you want to hit.

The Art of the Golf Swing

Most of you have seen the movie “Tin Cup” starring Kevin Costner among others. But Roy McAvoy, played by Kevin Costner, is s golf pro at a driving range in west Texas and is giving a golf lesson to Molly Griswold, played by Renee Russo. After Molly stands up to the ball and whiffs a couple times, she asks Roy to show her how to do it. Roy steps up to the ball and hits a solid shot out on the range. And Molly replies that she tends to process things verbally and asks Roy to break down the golf swing into words. This is my goal with this site. I will try and verbally explain the golf swing. So to start out, let’s hear what Roy had to say to get us going.

What is the golf swing? By Roy McAvoy.Correct alignment at setup helps cure a sliceDollar BillsYou don't have to wring the club's neckGolf and sex are the two things you don't have to be good at to enjoy.

“You mean, what is the golf swing by Roy McAvoy? Well I tend to think of the golf swing as a poem. The critical opening phrase of this poem will always be the grip, which the hands unite to form a single unit by the simple overlap of the (he points to his right pinky finger laying over the left forefinger, for lefthanders it would be the opposite) little finger. And lowly and slowly, the club head is led back, pulled into position not by the hands, but by the body, which turns away from the target, shifting weight to the right side without shifting balance. Tempo is everything, perfection unattainable as the body coils now at the top of the swing. There’s a slight hesitation, a little nod to the Gods…..that he is fallible. Perfection is unattainable, and now the weight begins shifting back to the left pulled by the powers inside the earth. It’s alive this swing, a living sculpture. And down through contact, always down….striking the ball crisply with character. The tuning fork goes off in your heart, your balls. Such a pure feeling as the well struck golf shot. And then the follow through to finish…..always on line.”

Tin Cup - Movie about a golfer's pursuit of the love of a woman, and of course his golf gameRoy goes on to talk about Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer and their unique follow-throughs, but we’ll get into that later. But explained in Roy’s lesson to Molly is just the start of the golf swing. He touches on all parts of it, but very briefly. We’re going to explore what makes it so and why the different parts are necessary. So please, follow along as I teach you the critical aspects of the golf swing that will undoubtedly help you understand your swing and ultimately subtract strokes from your score.

"The average golfer's problem is not so much the lack of ability as it is the lack of knowledge about what he should be doing."
- Ben Hogan

“The Stop Slicing program is exactly what I had hoped it would be. It is easy to use, simple to learn and not only does it make sense...it works. I find that I am actually enjoying my practice time now. The drills are fun and have taken all the work out of my practice time. My ball control has improved dramatically and I am much more confident in my swing. I am no longer trying to remember all the things I "should do" when I swing. I just swing now...and the ball happens to be in the way!”
